Art Island

We might say, “No art is an island.” Art is a social medium with contours mapped by human connection. But as the social space of art increasingly takes on global dimensions, we seek to root art in tangible geographies. In human scale. For this, we turn to islands for inspiration.

Art Island Center is a multidisciplinary resource for artists and researchers based on Naoshima. Bringing together local and visiting students and experts from diverse backgrounds in the arts and sciences, the Center is a place for creative discovery, critical dialogue, and the sharing of knowledge.
